Sports Headlines–5/30/2016

The College Station Cougars baseball team advanced to the Region III Championship with a walk-off 4 to 3 win in the 11th inning over Santa Fe on Saturday. College Station will play Tomball for a berth in the State Tournament this week.

It was Number 1 versus Number 2 for the SEC baseball championship yesterday as the Texas Aggies played their way through the loser’s bracket to face Florida for the conference tournament title. And, it was the Aggies who would claim the tournament championship with a 12 to 5 win over the Gators. To reach the championship game the Aggies beat 6th-ranked Vanderbilt on Friday 13 to 3 in 7 innings and 10th-ranked Ole Miss 12 to 8 on Saturday. The Aggies will host one of the Regional Tournaments this week.

The Houston Astros went the distance and beyond in beating the Los Angeles Angels on the road yesterday in 13 innings 8 to 6. The Astros had dropped the first game of the series to the Angels on Friday 7 to 2, but had come back to win on Saturday 4 to 2. The Astros will play at Arizona tonight.

The Texas Rangers posted a 6 to 2 win yesterday over the Pittsburgh Pirates to clinch a series win. The Rangers lost the first game of the series on Friday to the Pirates 9 to 1 before rebounding to win on Saturday 5 to 2. The Rangers play at Cleveland tonight.
