Sports Headlines–5/26/2016

The College Station baseball team will try to take another step towards a return trip to the State Tournament when they begin their Region Three Class 5A Semi-final series against Santa Fe tonight. The first game of the series tonight will be played in Sweeny at 6:30 pm. The series moves to Mumford at 1 pm on Saturday for the second and, if necessary, third game of the series.

The 2nd-ranked Texas A&M baseball team dropped their first game of the SEC Tournament yesterday 6 to 5 to 6th-ranked Vanderbilt. The Aggies will now have to play their way through the losers’ bracket beginning today against 9th-ranked South Carolina who lost 10 to 4 yesterday to Ole Miss.

The Houston Astros used home runs from Evan Gattis and Luis Valbuena yesterday to beat Baltimore 4 to 3. The Astros and Orioles will complete their series tonight.

And, Nomar Mazara ripped a tape-measure home run yesterday for the Texas Rangers. The homer measured 491 feet, the longest this season in the major leagues. The blast helped launch the Rangers past the Los Angeles Angels 15 to 9. The Rangers have today off.
