Sports Headlines–4/15/2013

The Bryan Vikings baseball team had a happy trip home from Lufkin Friday night following a 4 to 1 District 14-5A win.  The Rudder Rangers also picked up a big 8 to 4 District 18-4A in Waller.  The College Station Cougars beat Caldwell 5 to 2 in District 18-3A.  And, the A&M Consolidated Tigers beat Columbia 7 to 3 on Saturday in a non-district game.  Tomorrow, the Vikings will host the Tigers for the second Crosstown Showdown game of the season, the Rangers will host Brenham, and the Cougars will play at Rockdale.

The Bryan Lady Vikings softball team lost a District 14-5A game to The Woodlands Friday 10 to 6, the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers also lost a District 14-5A game to Conroe Oak Ridge 2 to nothing, and the College Station Lady Cougars cruised to a 10 to nothing District 18-3A win over Caldwell.  Tomorrow, the Lady Tigers will play at Conroe and the Lady Cougars will play at Rockdale.

The 24th-ranked Texas A&M baseball team was swept by 16th-ranked Mississippi State at Blue Bell Park this weekend.  The Aggies lost on Friday 3 to 2, on Saturday 9 to 3, and yesterday 15 to 4.  Tomorrow, the Aggies will play a non-conference game at Sam Houston State.

The 10th-ranked Texas Aggie softball team won only one game this weekend over 13th-ranked L-S-U.  The Aggies won the series opener on Friday 6 to 2, but lost on Saturday in 8 innings 9 to 6, and lost yesterday 10 to 2 in 5 innings.  The Aggies will be in San Marcos tomorrow to play Texas State.

In pro basketball, the Houston Rockets lost to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday 82 to 78 but beat the Sacramento Kings yesterday 121 to 100.  The San Antonio Spurs beat the Kings on Friday 108 to but lost to the L-A Lakers yesterday 91 to 86.  And, the Dallas Mavericks beat the Denver Nuggets on Friday 108 to 105 and cruised past the New Orleans Hornets yesterday 107 to 89.  Tonight, the Rockets will play the Suns in Phoenix, the Spurs will play at the Golden State Warriors, and the Mavericks will host the Grizzlies.

And, in major league baseball, the Houston Astros beat the Angels in L-A on Friday 5 to nothing, but they lost on Saturday 5 to 4 and again yesterday 4 to 1.  The Texas Rangers lost to the Mariners in Seattle 3 to 1 on Friday, but they bounced back to win on Saturday 3 to 1 before losing again yesterday 4 to 3.  Tonight, the Astros will play the A’s in Oakland.
