Too Soon for Daisies

William Dinner and William Morum’s English comedy thriller follows the antics of three elderly English ladies who “escape” from their retirement home in a rowboat and accidentally lose the oars.

The three escapees drift down the coast several miles and finally reach the shore near a coastal village in Suffolk. The play opens with their discovery of an empty and apparently abandoned cottage outside of town. Visitors soon prove too much and one hilarious antic after the other ensues as Freda Grey, played by Janice Cross Kerlee, Joy Philpotts played by Debbie Ferguson, and Edie Boggs played by Elizabeth Huber, do their best to keep their secrets and stay in their new-found home and freedom. Joining them in this sit-on-the-edge of your seat comedy are Worth Ferguson as Paul Vanderbloom; Myron Gross as Dr. John Hunter; Becky Jones Patek as Jackie Jackson; Silas Moores as Joe Pollop; and
Debbie Norris as The Policewoman.

As the three escapees decide what to do next they fantasize how lovely it would be if they owned the house and didn’t have to go back to their institution. We invite you to follow the antics of these ladies— because it truly is too soon for daisies. Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

“This hilarious English comedy will keep you laughing from beginning to end,” says Navasota Theatre president Sheryl Brown. “We are appreciative that the play is made possible by a Major Gift from Gary & Mavis Anderson, a Leadership Gift from Jo Ann Smith & Harold Urbanosky, and through the Hotel Tax Revenue funded by the City of Navasota through The Arts Council of the Brazos Valley.”

“I love directing comedies.  The timing must be just right, the technical aspects have to be tighter and there are always opportunities for more creativity,” says Director Chaz Pitman, NTA director and veteran actor, “I am excited to be directing the first play of the 2018 season.”
