CASA’S SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL CLOTHING DRIVE IS BACK FOR JULY

“Shop for CASA” provides back-to-school clothes for foster kids in Grimes, Burleson, and Brazos counties

Abused and neglected children who have been removed from their homes in Grimes, Burleson, and Brazos counties will get a sweet surprise this Summer when they receive new back-to-school outfits through Shop for CASA. Shop for CASA, formerly titled Skirting the Issue, is Voices for Children’s highly successful clothing drive they have hosted since 2012.

A.J. Renold, Executive Director at Voices for Children, says, “Many of these CASA kids leave their home with not much more than the clothes on their back but, thanks to Shop for CASA, they won’t have to worry about having new outfits for the upcoming school year.”

The kids get to specify what styles they like, and when a donor signs up they’ll receive all of that child’s preferences. Donors can also choose if they would like to shop for a boy or girl and what age they prefer. This system ensures that not only does every child get new clothes but that they will receive clothes they are excited to wear.

Allowing the kids to pick what kinds of clothes they like gives them a voice during a time they don’t have much choice on what happens to them. Shanntel Williams, Advocate Supervisor for CASA, says, “When one gives from the heart it is breathless and children are always excited to receive new things.”

Shop for CASA runs throughout the month of July. Voices for Children hopes to provide 2 outfits and a backpack per child but, in years past, donors have gone above and beyond by providing school supplies, shoes, lunchboxes, and more. Those who are interested in signing up for Shop for CASA can find more information on the Voices for Children website, www.vfcbrazos.org.

Voices for Children, CASA of Brazos Valley is a nonprofit program that recruits and trains volunteers (Court Appointed Special Advocate or CASA) in the community to advocate for children that have been removed from their home and/or are in the foster care system. Voices for Children serves about 180 kids in the Grimes, Burleson, and Brazos counties.
