Sports Headlines–1/17/2014

The high school basketball teams are playing tonight.  The Bryan Vikings boy’s basketball team will play a District 14-5A game at College Park, the Rudder Rangers will host a District 18-4A game against Magnolia West without head coach Darryl Mason who is serving a one game suspension for being ejected from a game earlier this season, and the College Station Cougars are hosting a District 18-3A game with Navasota.  In girl’s basketball, the Bryan Lady Vikings will host College Park for a District 14-5A game, the Rudder Lady Rangers are at Magnolia West for a District 18-4A game, and the College Station Lady Cougars are playing a District 18-3A game at Navasota.

The 25th-ranked Texas A&M women’s basketball team is on top of the S-E-C standings after their win last night over 8th-ranked South Carolina.  The Aggies beat the Gamecocks 67 to 65 in overtime.  It was the Aggies third straight win over a nationally ranked team.  The Aggies will play their next game on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm in Reed Arena against MississippiState and former Texas A&M assistant coach Vic Schaefer.

The Texas Aggie men’s basketball team, who is also undefeated in the S-E-C, will play a conference game on the road at MississippiState tomorrow afternoon at 12:30.

And, in pro basketball from last night, the Houston Rockets lost to the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder 104 to 92.  The Rockets will host the Milwaukee Bucks tomorrow night.  Tonight, the San Antonio Spurs will host the Portland Trail Blazers and Sunday the Spurs will host the Bucks.  And, the Dallas Mavericks will play the Suns in Phoenix tonight and will host the Trail Blazers tomorrow.
