Sports Headlines–7/17/2013

A former BryanHigh School soccer player led the U-S team to a Gold Cup match win last night.  Brek Shea came off the bench to score the only goal in a 1 to nothing win over Costa Rica in the match in East Hartford, Connecticut.  The U-S will play their next match Sunday in Baltimore against El Salvador in the quarterfinal round of the competition.

The Brazos Valley Bombers last night climbed to within one game of first place in the second half standings of the Texas Collegiate League season with a 3 to nothing win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters.  The Bombers will play the Cane Cutters again tonight in Youngsville, Louisiana.

And, the Texas A&M women’s basketball team picked up a player yesterday as Taylor Cooper transferred from OralRobertsUniversity.  The 6-foot forward averaged 10.4 points per game last season.  Cooper will have to sit out next year and will have three seasons of eligibility left.  Aggies coach Gary Blair calls Cooper “a solid all-around player.”
