Sports Headlines–7/15/2013

A&M Consolidated won five straight games Saturday to win the Division I Consolation Title at the State 7-on-7 Football Championships.  The Tigers beat Arlington Lamar 42 to 34 to win the Consolation Bracket.  Prior to the Consolation Championship game, the Tigers beat Longview 54 to 26, Manvel 44 to 22, Tyler John Tyler 45 to 27, and Weslaco 38 to 19.  Brenham lost to Plano 20 to 13 in the first round Saturday.  The College Station Cougars were knocked out of the Division II Championship Bracket in the first round Friday by Houston Westbury 26 to 25.  And, the Navasota Rattlers won their first game Friday beating Booker 34 to 19 but were knocked out of the tournament by Argyle 34 to 20.

The Brazos Valley Bombers beat the Texas Marshals on Friday night 2 to 1, but lost to the East Texas Pump Jacks in 10 innings on Saturday 6 to 5.  The Bombers bounced back last night to shut-out the Pump Jacks 2 to nothing.  The Bombers are off tonight and will travel to Youngsville tomorrow to play the Acadiana Cane Cutters.

Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is back in the news after leaving the Manning football camp a day early.  Manziel had been late for practice assignments and left the camp saying he was feeling ill.  Manziel was at the camp as a college counselor and coach.  Manziel’s father says Johnny is home and being treated for dehydration.  The Manning football camp is run by former New Orleans Saints quarterback Archie Manning and his two sons, Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning and New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

The Houston Astros lost two of three to the Rays in TampaBay this weekend.  The Astros won the Friday game 2 to 1, but lost on Saturday 4 to 3 and again yesterday 5 to nothing.  The Astros are off until Friday because of the All Star break.

And, just like the Astros, the Texas Rangers won only one of three games against the Tigers in Detroit this weekend.  The Rangers lost on Friday 7 to 2, won on Saturday 7 to 1, but lost yesterday 5 to nothing.  The Rangers are also off until Friday for the annual All Star break.
