Sports Headlines–7/12/2013

A Texas A&M player helped the Texas Marshals to a 2 to 1 win over the Brazos Valley Bombers last night at American Momentum Bank Ballpark.  Krey Bratsen legged out a third-strike passed ball in the eighth inning and came around to score the winning run for the Marshals.  The Bombers and Marshals will play again tonight at 7:05 pm in Bryan.

Two local teams advanced to the championship round yesterday and two more will play their first games today at the 7-on-7 footballState Championships in Leander.  College Station and Navasota both went undefeated yesterday and are in the Division Two championship bracket.  College Station beat Bangs 39 to 20, Yoakum 49 to 21 and Crandall 19 to 12 while Navasota beat Wills Point 64 to 13, Coleman 38 to 21 and Ingleside 39 to 34.  A&M Consolidated and Brenham both play their first games in the Division One tournament today.

After a day off, the Houston Astros will begin a three-game series tonight in TampaBay against the Rays.

And, the Texas Rangers ended up splitting their four-game series against the Orioles in Baltimore after losing the final game of the series last night 3 to 1.  The Rangers are in Detroit tonight to begin a three-game series against the Tigers.
