Sports Headlines–6/17/2013

The Brazos Valley Bombers continue to be the team to beat in the Texas Collegiate League.  The Bombers scratched out an 11 inning 12 to 11 win over The Woodlands Strykers on Friday night and then followed that with a 14 to 7 spanking of the Acadiana Cane Cutters on Saturday and a 3 to 1 win over the Cane Cutters yesterday.  The Bombers are off tonight before hitting the road to play at The Woodlands tomorrow night.

Aggie football fans have been buzzing with discussion over the weekend about a tweet posted by Johnny Manziel Friday night in which he stated he can’t wait to leave College Station.  He quickly followed that with another tweet asking fans to walk a day in his shoes before the statements were deleted from the social media website.  It is not known what caused Manziel to post the tweet, but during a speaking engagement in Houston last week he is quoted as having said his “world has gone completely upside down” since becoming the first Freshman to win the Heisman Trophy award last year.

The Houston Astros won their fourth straight game this weekend as they topped the Chicago White Sox at MinuteMaidPark on Friday 2 to 1, 4 to 3 on Saturday, and 5 to 4 yesterday.  The Astros will host the White Sox for the final game of the four game series tonight in Houston.

The Texas Rangers slump continued this weekend as they were swept by the visiting Toronto Blue Jays losing on Friday 8 to nothing, 6 to 1on Saturday, and 7 to 2 yesterday.  The Rangers have now lost six games in a row as they begin a four game series against the Oakland A’s in Arlington tonight.
