Sports Headlines–6/7/2013

The Brazos Valley Bombers struggled last night but held on to win their 7th straight game 4 to 2 over the Acadiana Cane Cutters at American Momentum Bank Ballpark in Bryan.  The Bombers will wrap-up their home stand tonight by hosting the Cane Cutters for a 7:05 pm first pitch.

It appears the Texas A&M football team is losing a quarterback recruit after Houston’s St. Pius X athlete Kohl Stewart was picked 4th overall by the Minnesota Twins yesterday in the Major League Draft.  Stewart is expected to sign a $4.5-million contract to play baseball for the Twins.  The Aggies were also expecting Stewart to become a part of the Texas A&M baseball team next year.  Stanford pitcher Mark Appel was the number one pick in the draft selected by the Houston Astros.

The Houston Astros were beaten yesterday by the Baltimore Orioles 3 to 1.  The Astros are in Kansas City tonight to begin a weekend series against the Royals.

David Ortiz hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning last night to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 6 to 3 win over the visiting Texas Rangers.  The Rangers are in Toronto tonight to open a weekend series with the Blue Jays.

And, the San Antonio Spurs hit a last second shot and then held on in Miami last night to beat the Heat 92 to 88 in the first game of the N-B-A Finals.  Game two of the series will be played Sunday night in Miami.
