Sports Headlines–5/6/2013

The baseball season ended this weekend for the local high school teams as both who where in the play-offs had their seasons ended.  The A&M Consolidated Tigers lost in Klein Friday evening 7 to 3 as the Bearkats swept the best-of-three series.  The Tigers ended their season with a 16-14-1 record.  And, the College Station Cougars wrapped up their first varsity season and play-off appearance Saturday by beating China Spring 9 to 4 in the second game of the best-of-three bi-district series, but losing the third and deciding game to China Spring 7 to 4 in eight innings.  The Cougars finished their season with a 25 and 9 record.

The Texas A&M baseball team swept a conference series from the Missouri Tigers this weekend winning on Friday 2 to 1, on Saturday 6 to 5, and yesterday 4 to 1.  The Aggies will host L-S-U for an S-E-C series beginning on Thursday night.

The 14th-ranked Texas Aggie softball team won their S-E-C series over Mississippi State winning on Friday 5 to 2, losing on Saturday 6 to 2, but winning again yesterday 4 to 2.  The Aggies will play Alabama on Wednesday at the S-E-C tournament in Lexington, Kentucky.

The Houston Rockets were eliminated from the N-B-A play-offs Friday night when they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder 103 to 94.  The Thunder won the series four-games-to-two.  The San Antonio Spurs will begin their conference semi-final series against the Golden State Warriors tonight in San Antonio.

And, the Houston Astros were swept by the Detroit Tigers in their four game series this weekend.  The Astros lost on Friday 4 to 3, on Saturday 17 to 2, and yesterday 9 to nothing.  In contrast, the Texas Rangers swept the Boston Red Sox winning Friday 7 to nothing, Saturday 5 to 1, and yesterday 4 to 3.  Both teams are off today.
