Sports Headlines–5/3/2013

It was hardly a night fit for baseball as the high school baseball play-offs started last night and the final scores were a reflection of the weather conditions.  The A&M Consolidated Tigers lost the first game of their best-of-three bi-district series to Klein 22 to 12 at Tigerland Field.  The series shifts to Klein for game two and, if needed, game three beginning at 5:30 this afternoon.  And, after falling behind by nine runs in the first inning, the College Station Cougars clawed back to take a lead into the bottom of the seventh inning last night at China Spring only to see China Spring score two runs in their last at-bat to come away with an 18 to 17 win in the first game of their best-of-three bi-district series.  Game two and, if necessary, game three will be played starting at 2:00 on Saturday afternoon.

The Texas A&M baseball team will begin a three-game conference series against Missouri tonight at 6:35 pm at Blue Bell Park.  The Aggies and Tigers will also play tomorrow at 2:05 pm and Sunday at 1:05 pm.

The 18th-ranked Texas Aggie softball team will wrap-up the S-E-C and season schedule this weekend by hosting Mississippi State.  The teams will play at the Aggie Softball Complex tonight at 7 pm, tomorrow at 4 pm, and Sunday at 12 noon.

The Houston Rockets will try for the third straight game to stay alive in the N-B-A play-offs tonight as they host the Oklahoma City Thunder for game six of their best-of-seven series.  The Thunder leads the series three-games-to-two.

And, in major league baseball last night, the Houston Astros lost the first game of their four-game series with the Detroit Tigers 7 to 3.  The Texas Rangers also lost the game and the series to the Chicago White Sox yesterday 3 to 1.  The Astros and Tigers will play again tonight in Houston while the Rangers host the Boston Red Sox for the first of three weekend games in Arlington.
