Sports Headlines–4/23/2013

The final week of the high school baseball regular season begins tonight with only one game on the local schedule.  The College Station Cougars, having already clinched a play-off spot, will play a District 18-3A game at Navasota at 7 pm.

The Texas A&M baseball team will play a non-conference game tonight as they travel to San Marcos to take on Texas State at 6:30 pm.

Texas A&M women’s basketball player Peyton Little is leaving the team.  Little announced last week that she was leaving Texas A&M at the end of the semester, but yesterday she announced she will be transferring to the University of Oklahoma.  She will sit out a season and then will have three years of eligibility remaining to play for the Sooners.  Coming out of Abilene Wylie High School, she had considered playing for Oklahoma or Texas Tech before deciding on Texas A&M.

And, in major league baseball, Houston pitching gave up three homers last night as the Astros lost to the Seattle Mariners 7 to 1.  The Texas Rangers scratched out a run in their last at-bat last night to slide past the Los Angeles Angels 7 to 6.  Both series continue tonight with the Astros hosting the Mariners and the Rangers playing at the Angels.
