Sports Headlines–4/22/2013

The A&M Consolidated Tigers baseball team clinched a spot in post season play Friday night when they beat College Park 7 to 5 for a District 14-5A win.  The Rudder Rangers also won Friday beating Willis on the road in District 18-4A 7 to 4.  And, the College Station Cougars made it a local trifecta on Friday night with an 11 to 5 District 18-3A win over Taylor.  The Tigers will wrap-up the district schedule on Friday night at Oak Ridge while the Cougars will finish the regular season tomorrow night at Navasota.

The Bryan Lady Vikings finished the District 14-5A schedule Friday night with an 8 to nothing win over College Park in The Woodlands.  Saturday, the Lady Vikings won a non-district warm-up game over Katy Seven Lakes 8 to 1.  Bryan will play Klein Collins in the bi-district round of the play-offs beginning Friday night.  Also Saturday, the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers beat College Park 6 to 4 to break a tie with the Lady Cavaliers for the final play-off spot from District 14-5A.  The Lady Tigers will play Kingwood in the bi-district round of the play-offs.  And, the College Station Lady Cougars missed out on the play-offs after losing their final District 18-3A game of the season to Taylor Friday night 7 to 2.

The Texas A&M baseball team won only one game at 12th-ranked Arkansas this weekend.  The Aggies beat the Hogs Friday night 5 to 3, but lost on Saturday 12 to 2 and again yesterday 2 to 1.  The Aggies will play a non-conference game at Texas State tomorrow night.

The 13th-ranked Texas Aggies softball team has now lost five straight conference games after being swept at Georgia this weekend.  The Aggies lost on Friday to the Lady Bulldogs 3 to 1, again on Saturday 12 to 7 with the Lady Bulldogs completing the sweep yesterday 6 to 3.  The Aggies are off until Friday when they begin a three-game S-E-C series at Ole Miss.

The N-B-A play-offs began this weekend with the Houston Rockets losing at the Oklahoma City Thunder last night 120 to 91.  Game 2 of the series is Wednesday night in Oklahoma City.  And, the San Antonio Spurs beat the L-A Lakers 91 to 79 yesterday.  The series will continue in San Antonio on Wednesday night.

And, in major league baseball, the Houston Astros beat the Cleveland Indians Friday night 3 to 2, but lost on Saturday 19 to 6 and again yesterday 5 to 4.  And, the Texas Rangers swept the Seattle Mariners winning on Friday 7 to nothing, again on Saturday 5 to nothing and one more time yesterday 11 to 3.  Tonight, the Astros will host the Mariners and the Rangers will play at the Los Angeles Angels.
