Sports Headlines–4/17/13

The A&M Consolidated Tigers baseball team made it a sweep of the Crosstown Showdown games for this year when they beat the Bryan Vikings last night 7 to 2 to stay in second place in the District 14-5A standings.  The Tigers will host College Park on Friday night while the Vikings will play a non-district game Saturday against Houston Second Baptist in Bryan.  Also last night, the Rudder Rangers lost a District 18-4A game to the Brenham Cubs 4 to 3 in 9 innings.  The Rangers will play at Willis on Friday night.

In softball, the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers crushed Conroe 10 to nothing in five innings last night to complete the District 14-5A schedule.  Also last night, the Rudder Lady Rangers lost their final District 18-4A game of the season to Montgomery 8 to 3 and the College Station Lady Cougars lost a District 18-3A game to Rockdale 7 to 1.  Friday, the Lady Cougars will host Taylor.

The Texas A&M baseball team lost a mid-week non-conference game at Sam Houston State last night 9 to 8 in 11 innings.  Friday, the Aggies will be in Fayetteville to begin a three-game weekend S-E-C series against Arkansas.

The 13th-ranked Texas Aggie softball team won a non-conference game on the road last night as they pounded Texas State 10 to nothing in five innings.  The Aggies will begin a weekend three-game conference series at Georgia on Friday evening.

The Houston Astros lost to the A’s in Oakland last night 4 to 3.  But, the Texas Rangers scratched out a 4 to 2 interleague win over the Cubs last night in Chicago.  Today, the Astros and A’s wrap-up their series in Oakland and tonight the Rangers and Cubs continue their series in the Windy City.

And, the N-B-A regular season ends tonight with the Houston Rockets play at the L-A Lakers, the San Antonio Spurs hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Dallas Mavericks hosting the New Orleans Hornets.
