Sports Headlines–4/16/2013

The second Crosstown Showdown baseball game of the season will be played tonight in Bryan.  The Bryan Vikings are hosting the A&M Consolidated Tigers for a District 14-5A game at 7 pm.  The Tigers won the first showdown earlier this season 2 to nothing.  Also tonight, the Rudder Rangers are hosting Brenham for a District 18-4A game at 7 pm.  And, the College Station Cougars are playing a District 18-3A game at Rockdale.

High School softball heads into the final week of the regular season tonight with the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers playing a District 14-5A game at Conroe, the Rudder Lady Rangers hosting Montgomery for a District 18-4A game at 7 pm, and the College Station Lady Cougars playing a District 18-3A game at Rockdale.

Texas A&M’s Kelsey Bone yesterday became the highest ever Aggie draft pick in the WNBA.  Bone was the overall 5th pick in the first round of the draft taken by the New York Liberty.  The 6-foot 4-inch Bone is giving up her senior year at Texas A&M to become a professional player.

The Texas A&M baseball team will play in Huntsville tonight 6:30 pm against Sam Houston State University.  The Texas Aggie softball team also has a non-conference game on the road tonight when they play Texas State in San Marcos at 6 pm.

In pro basketball last night, the Houston Rockets lost to the Suns in Phoenix 119 to 112, the San Antonio Spurs lost to the Golden State Warriors in Oakland 116 to 106, and the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 103 to 97.

And, in major league baseball last night, the Houston Astros lost to the A’s in Oakland 11 to 2.  Tonight, the Astros and A’s will play again in Oakland and the Texas Rangers will open an interleague series against the Cubs in Chicago.
