Sports Headlines–4/10/2013

The Bryan Vikings baseball team was shut-out by District 14-5A leader The Woodlands last night 10 to nothing.  The A&M Consolidated Tigers also lost a District 14-5A game falling to Lufkin 4 to 2.  The Rudder Rangers were winners in District 18-4A last night beating Magnolia West 8 to 1.  And, the College Station Cougars run-ruled Madisonville 11 to 1 in 6 innings last night for a District 18-3A win.  Friday, the Vikings will play at Lufkin, the Rangers will play at Waller, and the Cougars will host Caldwell.  The Tigers will play a non-district game at Alief Taylor on Saturday.

In softball, the Bryan Lady Vikings beat Lufkin 9 to 2 for a District 14-5A win.  The A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers slipped past College Park 9 to 7 to pick up a District 14-5A win.  The Rudder Lady Rangers were blanked by District 18-4A foe Brenham 6 to nothing.  And, the College Station Lady Cougars cruised past Madisonville 9 to 4 for a District 18-3A win.  Friday, the Lady Vikings will host The Woodlands, the Lady Tigers will play at Conroe Oak Ridge, the Lady Rangers will play at Willis, and the Lady Cougars will host Caldwell.

The 24th-ranked Texas A&M baseball team topped Sam Houston State 4 to 1 last night for a non-conference will at Blue Bell Park.  The Aggies will host Mississippi State Friday night for the first game of a weekend S-E-C series with the Bulldogs.

The 10th-ranked Texas Aggie softball team swept a twin-bill from Lamar University yesterday beating the Lady Cards 9 to nothing and 12 to 4 with both games shortened to five innings due to the run rule.  The Aggies will open a weekend conference series against L-S-U on Friday night.

The Houston Rockets got a goaltending call on the final shot of the game last night to beat the Phoenix Suns 101 to 98.  Tonight, the San Antonio Spurs will play the Nuggets in Denver and the Dallas Mavericks will host the Suns.

And, in major league baseball last night, the Houston Astros ended a six game losing streak by beating the Mariners in Seattle 16 to 9 and the Texas Rangers beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight night 6 to 1.  Tonight, the Astros and Mariners wrap-up their series in Seattle and today the Rangers finish their series with the Rays in Arlington.
